The August 2026 Monthly Report is now available. It features a new format that is clearer and quicker to read: every month, GPA SA compiles and analyses the main criminal and security incidents that have occurred in Switzerland, based on events reported in the press and by public sources.
Continued pressure on property and people
69 incidents were recorded in August 2026, across almost all cantons:
numerous burglaries and attempted break-ins, targeting shops, car garages and private homes;
several stabbings and armed robberies, including attacks on a shop in Ostermundigen and a bank in Farvagny;
a shooting during a party in Aarau;
Targeted scams: 28 cases involving people posing as police officers or bank staff in the canton of Neuchâtel alone, resulting in losses of around 180,000 francs.
Major public safety incidents
The report also reviews the incidents that required the authorities to take action: a chemical incident in Bubendorf, an explosion in a residential property in Kerzers, the discovery of a grenade in the River Limmat in Zurich, an operation involving an armed man in Thurgau, and the escape of a prisoner in Lausanne.
Three in-depth analyses
This edition analyses three notable incidents from the summer: the spying on high-profile figures, burglaries at holiday homes and vehicle thefts in border areas. For each, the report details the risks identified, the aggravating factors and five practical measures to be implemented.
Be proactive rather than reactive
This summary of this month’s security trends is intended to support your efforts to prevent, anticipate and adapt your security measures.
